Warm Audio Announces The Return Of One Of Recording History's Most Legendary Console Preamps

Introducing the Jude preamps, developed in official partnership with Sound Techniques to preserve the original console circuitry, groundbreaking Z-Match control, and the unmistakable console sound heard on legendary recordings by The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen. This is that preamp.

Austin, TX – September 8, 2026 - Sound Techniques, the legendary console manufacturer whose custom “A-Range” consoles helped define the sound of countless classic London recordings, has officially partnered with Warm Audio to introduce the Sound Techniques Jude Microphone Preamp.

Available in single and dual-channel, both models are designed directly from Geoff Frost's original console preamp schematics and manufactured by Warm Audio to Sound Techniques' exact specifications. Combining the authentic circuit topology and premium components of the original design, the Jude preamps deliver the celebrated British console sound heard on countless classic recordings, including The Beatles' "Hey Jude”, the inspiration for this preamp's name.

During the golden era of British recording, Sound Techniques established itself as one of the most respected names in professional console design, with its hand-built consoles installed in iconic London studios including Trident Studios, De Lane Lea, Sunset Sound, and Elektra Sound Recorders. This exact Sound Techniques “A-Range” preamp circuit helped shape countless classic recordings by artists including The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Queen, Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. Decades later, one of recording history's most celebrated and least accessible analog preamp designs is now available to studios worldwide through the Jude preamps.

"For decades, the Sound Techniques preamp was something only a handful of engineers ever had the opportunity to experience. We were ready to change that, but only if we found the right partner," said Danny White, owner of Sound Techniques. "Warm Audio demonstrated they had the engineering expertise, manufacturing capability, and commitment to source every premium component and faithfully execute every aspect of the original design.”

White continues, “They understood that preserving the character of these preamps isn't about simply copying a schematic; it's about opening up a piece of recording history to the wider world. That meant getting every detail right, from component selection and manufacturing consistency to the rigorous testing of every unit. Together, we're committed to preserving the performance, character, and legacy that helped shape so much of the music we love."

Working directly with Warm Audio, the Sound Techniques team specified every detail of Jude's design to uphold the exact standards of the original consoles. Every element, from the carefully hand-wired PCB layout, premium Wima and Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, carbon resistors, and custom-spec CineMag USA transformers to the dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifier, was selected to preserve the integrity of the original design. Completing the design is Geoff Frost's innovative 9-position Z-Match impedance circuit, one of the console's most distinctive creative tools for shaping the interaction between microphone and preamp.

Unlike conventional microphone preamps with fixed or limited impedance options, Jude's 9-position Z-Match control delivers Frost's original 8-lead impedance-matching circuitry, a groundbreaking design not repeated by any other microphone preamp. More than simply switching between fixed input impedances, each position can reveal distinctly different tones from the same microphone by changing how the microphone interacts with the entire front end of the preamp. The result reveals dramatic variations in clarity, transient response, frequency balance, saturation, and overall character, allowing vintage ribbons, modern condensers, and dynamic microphones to each reveal a range of sonic personalities with the turn of a single control.

By entrusting Warm Audio to meticulously manufacture each unit to these exact console-grade specifications, Sound Techniques ensured Jude delivers the authentic performance, response, and unmistakable sonic character that made the original consoles legendary among engineers and producers.

As with all Warm Audio products, each Jude preamp is 100% hand-tested and inspected by Warm Audio technicians in Austin, TX, and comes with the industry-leading 5-year warranty.
